自1981年以來，協(xié)會每年都舉辦學(xué)生獎學(xué)金競賽。從全國大學(xué)生教授提交的8,700多份參賽作品中選出了300多件作品。在一場可以開啟職業(yè)生涯的競賽中，學(xué)生們將他們最復(fù)雜、最精雕細(xì)琢、最具原創(chuàng)性的作品帶到考場進(jìn)行測試。由專業(yè)同行組成的評委會，包括插畫家和藝術(shù)總監(jiān)，選出一年中最杰出的作品。作品評審的原則基于技術(shù)的質(zhì)量，觀念和技巧以及媒介的使用。
  該協(xié)會的捐贈基金、來自私人和企業(yè)的慷慨捐贈，以及會員捐贈藝術(shù)品的年度拍賣所得，將向大約25名學(xué)生頒發(fā)獎學(xué)金，這些學(xué)生的作品被認(rèn)為是最優(yōu)秀作品中的佼佼者。
  在過去的30年里，該協(xié)會已經(jīng)在這個獨(dú)特的比賽中向有資格的學(xué)生頒發(fā)了超過150萬美元的獎金，這為今天的許多頂級專業(yè)人士打開了大門，包括卡迪爾尼爾森，詹姆斯貝內(nèi)特，格溫達(dá)卡佐爾，丹多斯桑托斯，詹姆斯吉恩等等。
  每年春季，學(xué)生獎學(xué)金展覽都會在插畫家協(xié)會的美國插畫博物館的畫廊舉行，并在開幕酒會期間向?qū)W生頒發(fā)獎項和證書。在招待會上，藝術(shù)教育工作者也獲得了榮譽(yù)，這是一個非常有聲望的獎項，頒發(fā)給那些在插畫教學(xué)和藝術(shù)上都有突出貢獻(xiàn)的教育工作者。
